Barbara J. (Maguire) Cox

Barbara J. Cox, age 70, of Vienna, Illinois, formerly of Greene County, Illinois, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 7:42 p.m. at Herrin Hospital.

Barbara was born on March 12, 1951 in Carlinville, Illinois, a daughter of Glenn Raymond and Etta Viola Mae (Wyzard) Maguire. She married David Cox on August 22, 1970 and he survives.

Barbara worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield for 20 years until her retirement. She worked hard and took care of her family. She loved to travel with David, especially to the beach and mountains. She was a very active member at the Grace Southern Baptist Church in Palmyra, Illinois.

Survivors include her husband, David Cox of Vienna, Illinois; her two sons, David Robert (Michelle) Cox of Palmyra, Illinois, Paul Russel (Tonya) Cox of Qulin, Missouri; grandchildren, Camilla Cox of Gillespie, Illinois, Chelsey (Austin) Wittmer of Lacey, Washington, Justin Cox of Qulin, Missouri, Jessica Cox of Rockford, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Oakland Anderson of Palmyra, Illinois, Carson Wittmer of Lacey, Washington and one on the way; brother, Carl Maguire of Rockbridge, Illinois; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn Raymond and Etta Viola Mae Maguire; sisters, Melba Maguire and Betty Smith; brothers, Frank and Howard Maguire.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  A memorial service will be held Friday, October 22, 2021 at 8 pm at the Shields-Bishop funeral home in Greenfield. Visitation will be from 6 pm until time of service.
