Billy Hamel Obituary

 Billy Lee Hamel, 88, formerly of Greenfield, died Tuesday, March 06, 2018 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. He was born July 29, 1929 in East Alton, IL. to Walter and Cecil (Anderson) Hamel.  He married Carolyn Smith, and she preceded him in death January 16, 1997. He then married Lola Hubbard, and she preceded him in death. 

     Surviving is a son, Vernon (Vicky) Hamel of Bethalto, three grandchildren, Justin (Clara) Hamel of Carrollton, Kerri Hamel of Bethalto, and Jessica Hamel of Bethalto, six great-grandchildren Hayden and Ruby Hamel, Summer Rogers, Gabriella and Jack Hix, and Kamyah Brown, a sister Shelby Riva of Godfrey, a brother, Jerry (Suzy) Hamel of Bethalto, a special friend, Rogene Hiesler, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, T.L. Hamel, four brothers, Wayne, Gene, Bob, and Walt, and a sister, Pauline Flatt.

     Bill served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He was a pipefitter working for Doyle Plumbing and Heating in Jacksonville and also farmed.  He enjoyed singing with the Ferris Wheelers from Jacksonville, and the Alton Barber Shoppers.  He also enjoyed RV camping and being outdoors.

      Graveside services will be at 11 am, Friday, March 9,at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield.  Memorials are requested to the Alzheimer’s Association. The Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of arrangements and online condolences can be left at shields-bishopfh.com
