Billy L. “BL” Pembrook, 91, of Greenfield, died Saturday, July 15, 2023, in Carrollton. He was born, November 6, 1931 in Greene County to Archie and Helen (Hutton) Pembrook. He married Lois Ferne Crouch January 19, 1952 in Carlinville, and she survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Larry (Cindy) of Greenfield, Randy (Mary Jo) of Hampstead, N.C., Steve (Susie) of Bunker Hill, and Michael “Mick” (Sandy) of Greenfield, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, a sister, Susie (Jim) Stuart of Roodhouse and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bob (Lois) Pembrook.
BL attended Jericho School, before graduating from Greenfield High School in 1948. He served his country in the United States Army, and farmed his entire life with his dad, and then, his sons. He was a member of the Greenfield First Baptist Church and served on many boards, including, the Greenfield Fire Protection District, the Greenfield Board of Education, the Illinois Fire Board, the Greenfield Coop Elevator Board, and the Farmers State Bank Board. He loved music and was a talented piano and bass player. He was an avid turkey and deer hunter, but most of all he was a family man and followed closely all the activities of his children and grandchildren. He loved all Tiger sports, especially Tiger football, where he served on the “chain gang” for many years.
Visitation will be Friday, July 21, from 4 until 7 pm at the First Baptist Church north of Greenfield. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 22, at 10:30 am at the church. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Greenfield Fire Protection District, the Tiger Backer Booster Club, or the First Baptist Church.
