Brian Keith Cox, 67, of Jerseyville, died Sunday, March 30, 2025 at his home. He was born, October 1, 1957 in Carrollton, the youngest of three boys, to Paul and Joanne (Hicks) Cox.
Brian was a 1975 graduate of Greenfield High School before attending an automotive technical school in Des Moines, Iowa. He made it his life’s work repairing automobiles, trucks, tractors and equipment for many different shops including his own for many years. He was well known for his ability to fix just about anything. His love for cars and engines started early in life and carried throughout his life.
Brian married twice early in life. A son was born through each of these marriages. First, Brian Kyle (Brandie) of Rockbridge and Benjamin Tyler (Katy Coates) of Jacksonville. He then married Ruby Donetta Butler on August 1, 1987 in rural Carrollton, and she survives. They enjoyed nearly 40 years together. They also raised her sons, Jason (Melissa) Yates, Donald Yates and Collin Yates, and these boys called him dad. Collin returned home to help care for “Dad” in his final months.
Also surviving are his brothers, David and Richard (Ida) Cox, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Barbara Cox.
Cremation rites will be accorded, and a memorial service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 12 pm at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield. Visitation will be from 10 am until time of service. Please leave a memory or condolence at shields-bishopfh.com
