C. Ray Powers, 88, formerly of Rockbridge and Carrollton, died Friday, March 2, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born April 21, 1929 in Scottville to Bennie and Elizabeth (Johnson) Powers. He married E. Colleen Ford June 26, 1948 in Greenfield, and she preceded him in death January 5, 2017.
Surviving is a daughter, Karen Manker of Chapin, a son, Larry (Linda) Powers of Greenfield, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son-in-law Robin Manker, four brothers and one sister.
A 1947 graduate of Greenfield High School, he was a welder for A.O. Smith in Granite City, owned and operated Powers Market in Rockbridge for many years, and farmed in his later years. He was a member of the Charity Southern Baptist Church in Greenfield, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and Cardinal Baseball.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 6 at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield from 10 am until noon. Funeral services will be held at noon. Burial will follow at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield. Memorials are suggested to the Charity Southern Baptist Church.
