Charles "Ed" Schirz died Saturday, June 24, 2017 at his daughter's home in Jacksonville. He was born September 27, 1924 at t Our Saviors Hospital in Jacksonville to Charles and Ella (Sutton) Schirz. He married Kathleen Flynn in October of 1952 and she preceded him in death July 20, 2006.
He is survived by his very special friend Edie Luddeke of Girard, a daughter, Jill (Tod) Dillard of Jacksonville, three sons, Chuck (Cathy) Schirz and Steve (Diana) Schirz both of Greenfield, and Nick Schirz of Cincinnati, Ohio, six grandchildren, Jackie (Chris) Goode, Jay Schirz, Jessica (Bill) Vetter, and Delani, Danielle, and Andrew Dillard, great-grandchildren, Tanner and Tyson Goode, and Ella and Emma Vetter, and one sister, Martha Magner of St. Louis.
Ed lived on a farm in the Franklin area until he was 13 years old. His parents then moved to a farm north of Greenfield for seven years and then to another farm four miles north of Greenfield where he worked, rented and later owned. He farmed until the summer of 1963 when he and Kathleen established Schirz Concrete Products. Additionally, he drove a truck for several firms until he retired. He was a 1942 graduate of Greenfield High School.
Visitation will be from 9 am until time of Mass at 11 am Saturday, July 1, at the St. Michael's Church in Greenfield. Cremation rites will be accorded following Mass and a private burial will be at Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield at a later date.
