Charles “Tom” Sonneborn, 78, of Palmyra, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born September 6, 1942 in Carrollton, to Ancle & Lela (Smith) Sonneborn. He married Bonnie Rowden, September 5, 1970 in Springfield, and she survives.
Also surviving are his children, Joni (Johnny) Post of Owasso, OK, Allen (companion Lisa Ribble) Rogers of Springfield, and Jason (Dawn) Sonneborn, of Palmyra, his grandchildren, David (JoJo) Rogers, Amber (Tyler) Hubal, Mallorie Humble, and Stormy Sonneborn, and three sisters, Virginia Thompson of Beardstown, Sue Shanks of Jacksonville, and Jane Johnston of Quincy.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Lansdell, a sister, Doris Dewey, and a brother, Robert Sonneborn.
Tom started his working career in farming before going to work for area farm supply companies. He then worked for the State of Illinois until retirement. After retirement, he began to drive a school bus for the Northwestern School District. He enjoyed the students and was loved by them. He enjoyed visiting friends while riding his golf cart around town. He served the Lord, and taught Sunday school for many years. He was a member of the Waverly First Baptist Church, and the Virden Masonic Lodge.
Visitation will be from 4 until 7 pm Thursday, August 5th,
at the Waverly First Baptist Church. A funeral will be held at the church at 11 am on Friday, the 6th. Family and friends are invited to eat lunch in the fellowship hall following the funeral, and a graveside service will be held at 2 pm at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield. Memorials are suggested to the Waverly First Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society. The Shields-Bishop Funeral Home is assisting the family.
