Charles H. Steidley

  Charles H. Steidley, 85, of rural Hettick, passed away Saturday, March 11, at the Carlinville Rehab and Health Care Center.  He was born July 8, 1931 at his home in Barr Township to Fred and Josephine ( Humphrey) Steidley.  Fred later married Lela Mutch,  Charles' step-mother.   Charles married Anna Florence Damm, January 5, 1951 in Greenfield, together they shared 66 years of marriage, and she survives. 

    Also surviving is one daughter, Barb Becker of Jacksonville, a son, David (Julie) Steidley of rural Hettick, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

     He was preceded by his parents, his step-mother, and one brother, Walter.

     Charles was a lifelong farmer. He was a 1949 graduate of Greenfield High School.   He served as a 4-H leader for 15 years, enjoyed playing cards, fishing and loved spending the winter in Texas.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and supported all University of Illinois Athletics.

     Visitation will be Wednesday, March 15 from 10 am until time of funeral at 11 am at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield.  Burial will follow at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield.  Memorials are suggested to the Celtic Hospice, 205 Oakland Ave., Carlinville, IL. 62626.
