Darrold Dean Jouett, 84, of Wood River, died Thursday, February 18, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 9, 1936 in Fayette, IL., the youngest child of Leslie and Helen (McGregor) Jouett. He married Donna Joan Estler, March 3, 1956, and she preceded him in death on July 28, 2011.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis (Cindy) Jouett of Jerseyville, and Doug (Marta) Jouett of San Antonio, TX, one daughter, Lori (Bo) Kratschmer of Edwardsville, six grandchildren, Sarah (Nathan) Brunaugh, David (Lanie) Jouett, Jessica (Shawn) Dow, Ashley (Jonn) Graff, Marisa Jouett and Jack Jouett, five great-grandchildren, Aden Brunaugh, Brendan, Preston, and Haiden Dow, and Victoria Graff, and his twin brother, Gerold (Tonie) Jouett, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a granddaughter, Megan Jouett, two sisters, Betty Bowman and Dorothy Allen, and three brothers, Bill, Richard, and Harold.
Darrold graduated from Greenfield High School in 1954, and proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. He served in satellite communications and retired after nearly 23 years of service. He then began work as an equipment technician at the Alton Dental School. Darrold retired again, and enjoyed many years visiting with his family, gardening, traveling and discussing politics. He was known to all as good natured, easy going and always ready to lend his skills to a project. His loss will be felt by many.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 27, at 12 pm at the Greenfield United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10 am until time of service. Burial, with full military rites provided by the Tri County Honor Guard, will follow at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield. Memorials are requested to the Tri County Honor Guard.
