Deborah Lynn (Wall) Hicks

Deborah Lynn Hicks passed away on Sunday December 11th at the age of sixty-seven surrounded by family. Born to the late Lewis and Virginia Wall of Oklahoma, Debbie attended Western Illinois University for one year before meeting and marrying her husband of forty-seven years, Steven, who survives her. Together, they had two surviving sons, Benjamin (Sarah) and Jeffrey (Kasia), and one grandson, Eliasz. She also is survived by two brothers, Larry (Linda) and Mark (Denise), and one sister, Sherrill. Debbie quickly adapted to life on the Hicks Family Farm and provided unwavering support to Steven throughout multiple planting and harvest seasons. Debbie loved playing guitar and teaching guitar lessons. Her membership at Gentle Shepherd Fellowship delighted her. Her fervent love of the Lord created delight in her to lead worship both there and for much of her adult life. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed turning her produce into many fantastic dishes. In her spare time, she could be found nurturing the many animals in their home, putting together jigsaw puzzles, taking the family dogs for a walk, or reading voraciously. She was a selfless giving mother who was always looking for the simplest things to help make life for her children and grandchild much better, warmer, and happier. Her presence will be sorely missed by the many people who were touched by her kindness and generosity. In accordance with her wishes, a “Celebration of Life” service will be held from 12:30 to 3:00 pm, Saturday, March 18, 2023.
