Dixie Lee Jones Turpin, age 84, of Greenfield, passed away on April 14, 2023. She was born May 22, 1938, in Winchester, Scott County, Illinois, to Bert A. and Birdie B. (Doty) Jones. Dixie was devoted to her family, friends, and God. She was a generous person who gave continuously of her time and money to charities and will be missed by many.

Surviving are two sons, Elon L. Turpin, wife Patricia, and Elliott L. Turpin, wife Sherry, of Carrollton, Illinois. She is also survived by one brother-in-law, Kent Black, one sister-in-law, Grace Hodgerson Jones, six grandchildren, Alyssa (Brandon) Owens, Kristina (Brendon) Norton, Kayla (Skyler) Olson, Gabriela Turpin, Dakota Turpin, and Alexander Turpin and two great-grandchildren, Savannah (born on Dixie’s birthday) and Remy Norton as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, three infant sons, two brothers, Robert D. and Melvin E. Jones, two sisters, B. Pauline Buckley and Karen A. Black, and one brother-in-law Wayne Buckley.

After retiring from MacMurray College in 1997, she cared for her elderly mother.

After her mother’s death in 1998, she volunteered at the Greenfield Elementary School as a tutor, classroom aide, and teacher’s aide. In December 2005, she began working as an office manager in her son Elliott’s law office in Carrollton.

She was a member of the Greenfield United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, a teacher for Sonshine Kids after school programs, and a Bible School teacher. In 2006, she was honored by the Greenfield Elementary School by the printing of one of her books, Volunteer of the Heart. She was a driver for Meals on Wheels, a member of the Century Club of the Public Library, where she also volunteered for many years at the summer reading program and various fund raisers. She was a Charter Representative for the Boy Scout Troop 22. She was a member of the P.E.O. International Sisterhood, and a member of the DAR chapter in Sherman, Texas.

Honoring her wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation rites will be accorded and a graveside service will be held at 11 am Saturday, April 22, at the Hickory Grove Cemetery near Wrights. Those wishing to donate funds to her memory may do so to the Greenfield Public Library or the Greenfield Foundation of Educational Excellence.
