Donald Wright Obituary

Donald D. “Bud” Wright, 91 of Greenfield, died Sunday, July 1, 2018 at his home.  He was born October 30, 1926 south of Wrights to Carl C. & Ruth (Dixon) Wright.  He married June E. Griswold, February 14, 1953 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Greenfield and she survives.
Also surviving is one son, Jon (Jackie) of Greenfield, two grandsons, Jeff (Rachel) and Tim (Amber) both of Rockbridge, one granddaughter, Ashlyn (Derek) Birch of Belleville, and five great-grandchildren, Zack, Addison, Avery, Mackenzie and Nolan.   He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Frances Stotler and Barbara Griswold.
Mr. Wright graduated from Greenfield High School in 1944. His proudest memory of his high school days was winning the I.V.C. football championship in 1943. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War assigned to the 198th tank Battalion 31st Division. As a corporal, Bud received the Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star and the United Nations Service Medal. He was engaged in farming his entire life with his father, son, and grandsons. He served as a Greene County Fair Board Director and Witt Cemetery Board Trustee. Bud was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Greenfield Tiger football. He liked to play rum at the Smokehouse on Saturday afternoons. He was arguably known by his friends as the best rum player in town. He enjoyed following his grandchildren playing football, baseball, volleyball, and basketball. He will be deeply missed by his family.
