 Dorothy A. (Arnold) Overbey, 92, died Monday, January 1, 2018 at Jerseyville Community Hospital.  She was born July 19, 1925 near Scottville to Ralph Dean and Jennie Mae (Dewitt) Arnold.

     She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1943 and soon after worked in the war effort by making bomb rings at the Alton Boxboard Company.  After meeting Edgar Ray Overbey in Greenfield, they were married on March 15, 1944.  They farmed in Greenfield, Kemper, and White Hall before retiring in 1986.  He preceded her in death on December 24, 2005 after 61 years together.  Dorothy enjoyed being a member of the Home Extension of Farm Bureau for more than 20 years.  She enjoyed cooking, sewing, canning, and other chores on the farm.  She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and a fan of country music.  She was a member of the Kemper First Baptist Church, White Hall Baptist Church, and the Carrollton Baptist Church respectively. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

     Dorothy is survived by three daughters,   Kathryn (Wayne) McDaniels of Greenfield, Linda (Gary) Short of Godfrey, and JoAnn (Michael) Hunt of Cimarron, Co., three granddaughters, Lori Lurton and Julie (Scott) Rhoads both of Carrollton, Amy (Robert) Pilger, Jr. of Godfrey, one grandson, Andrew Short of Godfrey, five great grandsons, Ryan Lurton and Brayden Rhoads of Carrollton, Clayton, Evan, and Alexander Pilger of Godfrey, and two great-granddaughters, Kristen Griswold and Jordyn Lurton of Carrollton, one great-great-granddaughter, Allie Schmidt of Carrollton and one great-great-grandson, Easton Griswold of Carrollton. Also surviving are four sisters, Helen Cimarossa of Waynesville, NC, Elsie Stacy of Decatur, Tn., Martha Manker of Springfield, IL, and Fern Jouett of Monument, Co., and one brother, Dean Arnold of Crystal River, Fl.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, on sister, Irene Burton and two brothers, Ebert and Harold Arnold.

     Visitation will be Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 10 am until time of funeral service at 12 noon at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield.  Burial will follow at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested the Parkinson’s Foundation, St. Louis Shriners Hospital for children, or the First Baptist Church of Carrollton.
