Dorothy Ann (DeGeal) Ruyle

Dorothy Ann Ruyle, 96, of Georgetown, Ky., passed away May 11, 2026, in hospice care at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Ky. She was born September 13, 1929, at home, St. Louis County in Missouri the daughter of Louis and Caroline DeGeal.  She graduated from Rockbridge High School in 1947.  She married Clinton Nettles in 1949, and he preceded her in death April 8, 1983.  She then married Howard Ruyle, and he preceded her in death in 2006.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edward DeGeal and George DeGeal, one sister, Loena Kelley, one grandson, Travis Crull and a daughter-in-law Jeana Nettles.

She is survived by two daughters, Jan (Greg) Witt of Rockbridge, and Marsha Nettles of Georgetown, KY., five sons, Jerry (Cindy), Ron (Pat) and Dana all of Georgetown, KY., Terry of Carrollton, and Jim (Mary Sue) of Greenfield, two sisters-in-law, Jackie DeGeal of Rockbridge and Carol DeGeal of Camdenton, MO., fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Dorothy “Dot” as she liked to be called, enjoyed reading working on puzzles and helping to take care of her big family.  She will be so missed.

A visitation will be held Friday, May 22, 2026, from 10 am until 12 pm at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield where a funeral service will be held at 12 pm. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery near Wrights.  Please leave a condolence or memory at shields-bishopfh.com
