Father Henry Schmidt, 90, of Carrollton, passed away August 11, 2022 at Jerseyville Manor. He was born September 24, 1931 in Carrollton, and was raised by his father and mother, Henry and Anna (Meyer) Schmidt, along with his five brothers, Fred, Joe, John, Charlie and Bob and his sister, Henrianne on a farm in rural Carrollton. He worked the farm until his graduation from St. Johns Catholic High School in 1949. He then entered the seminary and was ordained a priest in 1957. He has served in that capacity for 65 years in many parishes in the Springfield Dioceses. In July of 2002 he was assigned to his hometown parish St. Johns the Evangelist Church in Carrollton, along with St. Michaels Parish in Greenfield and All Saints Parish in White Hall. Fr. Henry loved to interact with his family and his 23 nieces and nephews. Fr. worked very hard in many youth activities in addition to his parish duties by incorporating the beauty of the outdoors. Fr. Henry was an accomplished writer and published a book “The Pastor’s Sandal Path”, in which many of his sermons and life experiences were shared for all to read. Fr. Henry is survived by his brother, John Schmidt and his sister, Sister Henrianne Schmidt. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Fred, Joseph, Charles and Bob Schmidt. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Carrollton with burial in St. Johns Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at St. Johns Church and again on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time of the funeral mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Johns Catholic School. Funeral directors, Bill Stendeback and Dan Bishop are assisting the family with services.
