Frances E. Hodgerson, 87, of Greenfield died Wednesday, November 1, at Liberty Village in Jerseyville. She was born, November 13, 1935, to Leroy and Pauline (Scott) Walker in their home in rural Rockbridge. She married Howard Hodgerson, December 3, 1955 in Carrollton, and he preceded her in death May 15, 1994.
Surviving are sons, Ray Hodgerson, of Greenfield, and Kevin (Debra) Hodgerson, of Mountain Home, Idaho, grandchildren, Nate (Jennifer) Hodgerson, Katrina (Zachery) Barnett, Devon (Courtney) Hodgerson and Kalleen (Logan) Curran, great-grandchildren, Karl, Eli, Owen, Remyngton, Kymber, Boone, Emma and Zoey, siblings, Dean Walker, Wanda Ross, Bill (Eleise)Walker, Jack (Charlene)Walker, Deb (Jerry) Joyce, and Brenda (Randy) Gaffney, sister-in-law, Susie Walker and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jay Hodgerson, siblings Carroll (Dorothy) Walker, Darrell Walker, Barb (Warren) Wagner, and Randy Walker, sister-in-law Marilyn Walker, and brother-in-law, Richard Ross.
Frances influenced many generations through her business of Greenfield Day Care and Nursery School which she owned and operated for many years out of her home until her retirement in 1995. She then continued to babysit and care for children many years after closing the daycare. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Greenfield. Frances was an avid Tiger fan and you could find her sitting on the hillside cheering on the football boys many Friday nights with her siblings.
A visitation will be held Thursday, November 16 from 4-7pm, at the First Baptist Church north of Greenfield. Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 17 at 10 am at the First Baptist Church north of Greenfield. Burial will follow at the Borlin Cemetery southwest of Carrollton. Memorials are suggested to the Little Disciples Daycare or the Greenfield Tiger Backers. The Shields-Bishop Funeral Home is assisting the family.
