Gary Lee Chapman, 83, of Greenfield passed away on the afternoon of Friday August 19, 2022, at his home. He was born October 18, 1938, in White Hall, the son of Ralph and Irene (Hembrough) Chapman. Gary spent many years living in the care of Lee Raffety; he considered him to be a father figure.
He married Barbara Settles, and together they had four daughters: Deborah, Patricia, Leesa, and Cynthia. They later divorced.
Gary married Vicky Lynn Bossarte on November 10, 1979, and she preceded him in death on July 3, 2009.
Surviving are his brothers: Lyndell (Shirley) Chapman of Kentucky, Darrell (Mary Kay) Raffety of Carlinville, and Lindell Rynders of Greenfield. Additional surviving siblings: Allen Chapman of Rock Falls, Tom (Sharon) Chapman of Winnebago, Sunday (Bill) Bryant of Indiana, Holly (Randy) Rhodes of Florida, Becky (Ronnie) Rhodes of Sterling, Angie (Mike) Geesey of Iowa, and Melanie (Don) Romero of Rock Falls.
Also surviving are three daughters, Deborah (Bruce) Erick, Leesa (Bryan) Glassick, and Cynthia Robinson, a step-daughter, Tara Metternich, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews to whom Gary was very fond of.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vicky, his daughter Patricia Tuttle, a grandson Louis Tuttle, and two sisters-in-law, Teresa Rynders and Kay Harr.
Gary was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greenfield and a past member of the Greenfield Lions Club. He enjoyed traveling, camping, and trout fishing. He especially enjoyed camping at Cloud 9 Ranch in Caulfield, MO, where he met many lifelong friends.
Most of all, he enjoyed his family. He was very social, never knowing a stranger, and could often be seen riding his golf cart around town with his dog, Mandy. He will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 24 at 10:30 am at the Shields-Bishop funeral home in Greenfield. The visitation will be Tuesday, August 23 from 4 until 7 pm.
