Helena "Ferne" (Ruby) Tool, 98, of rural Roodhouse, died Friday afternoon, June 25, at the Scott County Nursing Center in Winchester. She was born July 13, 1922 in English, Indiana, daughter of John Davis and Ida Mae (Rizer) Ruby. She married Francis Clark Tool, July 27, 1940, in Louisville, Kentucky. He preceded her in death November 6, 2008.
She is survived by one son, Jim (Shasta) Tool of rural Roodhouse, four grandchildren, Dan (Terri) Tool, Deborah Tool, Jason (Leann) Cummins, and Matt (Andrea) Cummins, eight great-grandchildren, Bryar (Kelsey) Tool, Ellissa (Chance) Sexton, Jacob (Samantha) Sexton, Joshua (Donna) Cummins, Garner Cummins, Madelyn (Trevor) Cummins, Nathan Cummins, and Ian Cummins. and six, great-great-grandchildren, Nora and Sawyer Sexton, Sophia and Neil Sexton, Gunner Tool, and Aedyn Cummins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and seven siblings, Myrtle Coleman, Cordelia Wiseman, Edna Marchal, Ruth Lichti, Goldie Ruby, Thad Ruby and John Ruby.
Ferne was a member of the Athensville Baptist Church since 1953, and Scottville Home Extension. She was a 4-H Leader for many years. She had worked at the Squire Gift Shop and Klines Department Store, both in Jacksonville.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 30, at 11 am, at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield. Visitation will be held from 10 am until time of funeral at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at the Waverly East Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Athensville Baptist Church, or the Scott County Nursing Center. Please leave a memory or condolence for the family at shields-bishopfh.com
