James C. Scharfenberg

James C. Scharfenberg, 83, of Greenfield, died Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Jerseyville Manor. He was born July 13, 1942, in Greenfield, the son of Adam C. and Margeine (Overbey) Scharfenberg.  He married Sandra K. Hopper November 15, 1962, and she preceded him in death April 14, 1988.  He then married Tossie Smith, December 8, 1990, and she survives.

Also surviving is a son, Chris (Michelle) Scharfenberg, daughters, Angela (Patrick) Barnes, Michelle Steinkuehler and Beth (Jack) Geisler, grandchildren, Colten, Danica, Gavin, and Mason Scharfenberg, Elizabeth (Chris) Sparling, Jessica (Chad) Coombs, Ashley (Brandon) Stephens, Ryan Probst, Hayden (Kaci) Geisler and Jayme (Tayler) Dintelman, sixteen great-grandchildren, and a sister, Patricia Scharfenberg Edwards. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a great-grandchild, Jaxon Ballard.

Jim was a member of the National Street Rod Association and loved spending time working on street rods and creating unique metal works. He enjoyed spending time with nature on his property.  He loved his family and will be missed by those who knew him

A funeral service will be held Monday, March 30, at 11 am at Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield. A visitation will be from 9 am until time of service.  Burial will follow at Richwoods Cemetery.  Memorials are requested to the Greenfield High School Industrial Technology Program.
