Janet Lake Obituary

Janet R. Lake, 80, of Carrollton, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, surrounded by her family.  She was born, July 13, 1945, in Jerseyville, the daughter of Alfred and Dorothy (Bartlett) Klunk.  She married Robert “Bob” Lake, September 12, 1964, at Holy Ghost Church in Jerseyville, and he survives.

Also surviving are her children, Doug (Linda) Lake, Chris (Darren) Hayn, Patti (Alan) Johnson, Cheryl (Kenny) Bowman, Donna (Joe) Killday, Brenda (Andy) Carroll, Laura (Doug) Fink, LeAnn (Adam) Russell, and Sarah (Jamie) Flowers, her grandchildren, Michael, Kimberly,  Jessica (Jacob), Lindsey (Max), Deanna (Adam), Devin, Dana (Joe), Blake, Marissa (Alex), Austin (Keirstin), Kayla, Brooke, Alexis, Gabby, Brady, Anna, Luke, Owen, Logan, Ethan, Carly, Ben, Kade, Callie, and Carson, her great-grandchildren, Sonny, Hank, Caroline, Stella, Ruby, Kylie, Lila, Claire, Blakely, and Isla, her sister, Betty Schnettgoecke, and her brother, James Klunk.  She was preceded in death by her sister Doris Egelhoff and two brothers Robert and Edwin Klunk.

Janet was raised on a dairy farm in Jersey County where she learned the importance of hard work. She was strong to her Catholic faith throughout her life and participated in most activities involving St. John’s Church and school over many years. She raised her 9 children alongside her devoted husband Bob, instilling both of their greatest attributes of dedication, hard work, and perseverance. Through the years, many grandchildren (25) were welcomed into the family, and she helped with them in any way she possibly could. Now, there are great grandchildren to keep the family tree growing. Janet was best known in the community for her baking, especially her angel food cakes, coconut cream and pecan pies, all which were sought by others at gatherings.  But most importantly, besides her children, were the daily or multiple daily phone calls between her sister Betty, best friend Rosemary and other close friends.  Her wisdom and knowledge will live on through her many teachings she shared. Lastly, she was a proud supporter and icon at All About You Boutique.  She enjoyed unboxing, sorting and tagging all the new items but loved getting all the newest fashions and decorations, first.  She will be greatly missed, but her family will proudly honor and cherish her memories

A prayer service will be held Friday, December 12, at 3:45 pm at St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrollton followed by a visitation until 7 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 13, at 10 am at the church.  Burial will follow at St. John’s Church Cemetery in Carrollton.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in her memory be made to St. John’s Cemetery or Boyd Memorial Hospital. Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield is assisting the family with services.  Please leave a memory or condolence at shields-bishopfh.com.
