Larry J. Baker Sr., 77, of Hettick, passed away Thursday, January 22, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born May 19, 1948, in Alton, to James L. and Elizabeth D. (Huber) Baker. He married Ruby A. Lutz, August 2, 1972, in Carlinville, and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Larry J. Baker Jr. of Hettick, Steven (Shelly) Baker Sr. of Riverton, and Mike Baker of Hettick, three grandchildren, Steven Baker Jr., Elizabeth Baker, and Gabe Baker, and a sister, Sharon Szczeblewski of Palmyra. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Kenny Baker Sr. and Richard Baker.
Larry served his country in the United States Army, 101st Airborne, in Vietnam and was a member of the VFW. He worked at Mobil Chemical. He enjoyed watching Westerns, especially his two favorite actors, Walter Brennan and Chuck Conners. He also enjoyed gardening, plowing snow, and tinkering with his tractor.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 27, from 5 until 8 at Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield where a funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, January 28. Burial, with full military rites provided by the Tri-County Honor Guard, will follow at Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield.
