Larry R. Powers, 73, of Jacksonville, formerly of Greenfield, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2025, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born July 11, 1952, in Carrollton, to Ray and Colleen (Ford) Powers. He married Bessie (Dugger) Powers in 1978. They were later divorced. He then married Linda Cunningham on November 5, 2016, at Charity Southern Baptist Church in Greenfield. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Amanda (Nathan) Henderson of Troy, IL, Micah (Kelly) Powers of Paullina, IA, his step-children, Christina Cunningham of South Korea, Jason (Jennifer) Cunningham of Coventry, RI., and Toby Powers of Chicago, and his grandchildren, Jonathan Riedemann, Dane and Delaney Henderson, and Cameron and Caden Cunningham, and his sister, Karen Manker of Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines and retired from Consolidated Grain and Barge Company. He was an avid collector of antique radios and cars. He was a blessed husband and loved traveling with Linda. He was an amazing father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by those that were in his life.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 4, at 11 am at Shields-Bishop Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 am until time of the service. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery in rural Carrollton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Providence Cemetery or Huntsman Cancer Foundation via Sigma Chi at Saint Louis University (Huntsman SLU) and can be mailed to the funeral home at 604 Walnut St., Greenfield, Illinois 62044.
