Linda Kay Motley, 80, of Hettick passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at St. John’s
Hospital in Springfield, following a courageous battle with a brief illness.
Linda was born on April 22, 1946, in Carrollton to Thomas and Elizabeth (Knisley) Ballard.
She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1964 and married Gary Motley on June 20,
1965. Together they built a life and family and shared nearly 61 years together, celebrating
60 years of marriage.
Linda spent most of her career in the banking industry, where she became known for her

the years. She worked as a teller at Palmyra Bank, Town & Country Bank, Chesterfield State
Bank, and most recently continued working full-time at Peoples Bank & Trust in Palmyra,
Illinois.
Linda was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family deeply and
especially treasured her role as a grandmother. Her grandsons brought her tremendous
pride and were an important part of her life.
She was also a dedicated St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed cheering on her favorite
team through every season.
Linda is survived by her husband, Gary Motley; her son, Bryan (Jackie) Motley of Palmyra;
her daughter, Tracy (Dan) Koster of Carlinville; and her beloved grandsons, Lucas (Kaitlyn)
Motley of Granite City, Blake Motley of Hettick, Ryan Koster and George Koster, both of
Carlinville. She is also survived by her brothers, Larry Joe Ballard and Kirby (Peggy) Ballard
both of Carrollton; her sister, Eva (Lewis) McClenning of White Hall; and several nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Ballard; her son, Barry
Motley; her brother, Donald Ballard; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Ballard.
Linda will be remembered for her dedication to her work, her commitment to her family,
and the lasting friendships she formed throughout her life. She leaves behind many
memories that will continue to be cherished by those who knew and loved her.
