Lloyd George, 94, of Greenfield, died Thursday, May 2, at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy.
He was born May 1, 1930 in Roodhouse to Thomas and Mary (Smith) George. He married Betty June Winters February 3, 1950 and she preceded him in death June 16, 1976. He then married Anna Mansfield, June 26, 1977 and she preceded him in death December 14, 2018.
Surviving are three sons, David L. (Julie) of Greenfield, Dale W. (Christine) of Hannibal, MO., and Daniel L. (Carol) of Bellevue, NE, three step-sons David (LuAnn) Mansfield of White Hall, Jon Mansfield of Lowden, IA, and Andy (Sally) Mansfield of White Hall, five grandchildren, Christina (James) Sloan, Jeff Dixon, Kaitlyn George, Kaleigh (J.T.) Peters, and Elizabeth George, six step-grandchildren, Brian (Kate) Mansfield, Brad (Jennifer) Mansfield, Brent (Willow) Mansfield, Lyn (Spencer) Young, Lucy (Kirk) Evanson, and Laura (Drew) Bell, six great-grandchildren, Abagail, Thomas, Samuel, Cooper, Evangalene, and Holden, 14 step-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, a grandson, Trevor George, three sisters, Veda Hamilton, Mildred Haviland, and Helen McLamar, and five brothers, Gale, Buell, Harold, Ellsworth and Lee.
Lloyd was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Greenfield. He served his country in the United States Air Force. He was the retail grocery manager at Search’s IGA store in White Hall and Greenfield moving to Greenfield in 1957. He was a member of the Greenfield Lions Club for 66 years. He loved to garden, raise cattle, and travel with his family.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the Greenfield First Baptist Church from 9 am until time of funeral service at 11 am. Burial, with full military rites provided by the Tri-County Honor Guard, will follow at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield.
