Nancy (Settles) Hillis, 77, of Greenfield, went to be with the Lord, March 31, 2022. She married Harold “Rut” Hillis December 4, 1968, and he survives.
Also surviving are her sons, Michael Hillis of Greenfield, and Robert Hillis of Jacksonville, grandsons, Peyton and Hunter Hillis, sisters, Carol Jackson, Marsha Settles, Ruthann Langley, Patsy (Ralph) Steward, Kathy (Roger) Varble, brothers, Denny Settles, Terry (Deb) Settles, Rick (Maria) Settles, a special Aunt Roberta “Berty” and Uncle Tom Gibson, and a large extended family, all of whom she admired dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Nancy worked at Hertzberg Perma Bound in Jacksonville for over 35 years.
Nancy was a strong believer with her faith in God, being a member of Fayette Baptist Church, where she enjoyed her church family, taught Sunday School, and Bible School. She led many to Christ. Her love for her family was her focus. She and Rut hosted family gatherings and holidays for many years. Her door was always open for those who stopped by for sweet tea, a game of Rummy and a good visit. She helped all she could and gave it her all. She had the biggest heart and her compassion and spirit will live on in the memories we all share.
In her retired years, her biggest joy was being ‘Nana” to Alexis, Stetson, Cailyn, and Danika. She will forever be in our hearts, souls, and memories.
Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded, and a private family service will be held. Memorials are suggested to the Greenfield Fire Department and can be mailed to the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home, 604 Walnut Street, Greenfield, IL. 62044.
