R.E. “Gene” Pennington, 86, of Greenfield, died Thursday, April 27, at his home. He was born October 8, 1936, in Cumberland County, IL. the only child of Ralph and Beulah (Scott) Pennington. He married Donna Thomasson June 9, 2005 in Greenfield, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Suzy (Jim) Dalton of Athensville, and Kay (Gary) Pence of Rockbridge, a step-daughter, Dana (Craig) Plummer of Patterson, a son, Tim Pennington of Greenfield, a step-son, Dale (Candace) Woolsey of rural Roodhouse, eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, one step-great grandchild, and three great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Tammy Pennington.
Gene was a hard worker his whole life. He was the Sealtest milkman in the 60’s and 70’s, he worked for the Burlington Railroad in the late 70’s, and owned and operated the D.P. Cream in Greenfield. He volunteered many years on the Greenfield Fire Department. He enjoyed making people laugh, and watching his children and grandchildren participate in Greenfield Tiger sports.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a graveside service will be held Saturday, May 6, at 11 am at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield. Friends are welcome to attend.
