Ralph Eugene Henson, 80, of Greenfield, died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at his home surrounded by family. He was born August 7, 1937 in Libertyville, IL.to Richard Thomas and Velma (Case) Henson. He married the love of his life Margaret May Parker December 21, 1956 in Holly Springs, Ms. and together they shared over 61 years. She survives.
Also surviving are six daughters, Sherry Elizabeth (Ollie) Hamm of Greenfield, Sandra Kay (Mick) Pembrook of Greenfield, Michelle Ann Wallbaum of Franklin, Rebecca Sue (Dan) Bishop of Greenfield, Bonnie Lou (Dave) Martin of Newnan, Ga., and Connie Sue Shaw of Bloomington, a son, Randall Eugene (Julie) Henson of Greenfield, grandchildren Denise (Tim) McCutcheon, Travis Hamm, Ashley (Evan) Williams, Brent, Jared, and McKenzie Henson, Kayla (Jeff) Whiteside, Leah and Kelly Pembrook, Daniel and Adam Probst, Jake (Amber) Piper, Nick (Kera) Bishop, Michael, Kristen, and Megan Bishop, Skyler, Cole, and River Martin, and Hayden Shaw, and great-grandchildren Sean, Addison, Jailyn, Easton, Paislee, Hunter, Reese, Bradyn, Cruz, Jade, Hank, Rilen Braysen, Ryatt, Emerson, Reagan and Jett, and Wayne (Lisa) Sides who they raised in their home as a son.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lyle, and a great-granddaughter Gracie Ann.
Ralph grew up in “Corn Stalk Flats” in White Hall. He was a butcher for Parks Locker in Greenfield, for 30 years and enjoyed carpentry and painting. He was a fan of the game of baseball and an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He loved to fish, pick blackberries, vacations, and sit on his porch and spend time with family and friends. If you asked him, his grandchildren could “Do no wrong”! He loved his family and will be missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, April 3 at the Greenfield First Baptist Church where he attended weekly services. Visitation will be held Monday April 2 from 3 - 7 pm at the church. Burial will follow at Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield. Memorials are suggested to the Greenfield First Baptist Church, BJC Hospice or the medical equipment fund at the Jerseyville Manor Bounce Back where he received excellent care from both.
