Ralph Fleetwood Longmeyer, 90, of Greenfield passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024. He was born June 17, 1933 in Phoenix, Arizona to Henry Longmeyer and Margaret (Palmer) Longmeyer.
He married Nancy (Fleming) July 8, 1961 in Lincoln, Nebraska and she survives. Also surviving are his children Ann Griffin (Mark) of Maryland Heights, Missouri; Mitchell Longmeyer (Toni) of Greenfield; and Michael Longmeyer (Julie) of St. Louis, Missouri; and seven grandchildren, Katherine RIchardet (Will) of Perryville, Missouri; Maggie Griffin of Columbia, Missouri; Rose Griffin of Tinley Park, Illinois; Ryan Griffin of St. Louis, Missouri; and Thomas, Henry, and Edward Longmeyer all of St. Louis, Missouri.
Ralph graduated from Greenfield High School in 1951, and from Purdue University in 1955. After college, Ralph served in the Navy as a pilot deployed on the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La on a tour of the Far East. He then returned to Greenfield to join his father and brother as a cattle feeder.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Henry “Albert” Longmeyer, and his nephew Marcus Longmeyer.
Cremation rites will be accorded, and a memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Greenfield from 10 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Private burial will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to The Greenfield Foundation for Educational Excellence. The Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield is assisting the family.
