Retha M Loy, 97, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, June 14, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing. She was born May 5, 1924, in Greene County, to Orville and Ida (Bridgewater) Fry. She married Homer Loy, March 14, 1945, and he preceded her in death on November 5, 1977.
Surviving is one son, Thomas Loy of Greenfield, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a son-in-law, Don Tuey, a daughter-in-law, Ruth Loy, and brother-in-law, Robert Reynolds.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Peggy Tuey, two sons, Dennis and Richard, three sisters, Dorothy, Virginia, and Francis, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
Retha was a seamstress for many years before retiring to help care for her grandson, Bryon. She returned to work as a cook in Greenfield and Auburn. She was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed traveling with her sister, Francis and brother-in-law Robert, playing cards and watching Wheel of Fortune. She mostly loved spending time with family and will be missed.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a private graveside service will be held at Oak Wood cemetery at a later date. The Shields-Bishop Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Please leave a memory or condolence at shields-bishopfh.com
