Richard Loy, 68, of Jerseyville, died Friday Jan. 13, at John Cochran's Hospital in St. Louis. He was born May 3, 1948 in Carrollton to Homer and Retha Loy. He married Ruth Varble July 2, 1971 in Carrollton and she survives.
Surviving is his mother, Retha, two daughters, Tammy (Chuck) Wolfe of Medora and Alicia (Kyle) Loy of Brighton, one son, Chris (Shawna) Loy of Olney, 6 grandchildren, Paige, Grayson, Makenna, Baley Ann, Taylor, and Rayce, a brother, Tom Loy of Greenfield, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, two sisters, Linda Loy and Peg Tuey and a brother Dennis.
Dick served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad, several area farmers and dismantled cars at a junk yard. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and car races. He most enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 am until time of funeral service at 11 Wednesday, January 18 at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial, with full military rites provided by Jerseyville Legion Post #492 at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield. Memorials are requested to the family in care of the funeral home.
