Richard D. “Rich” Shafer, 76, of rural Greenfield, died Sunday, March 29, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born October 10, 1949 in Carrollton, the son of Ralph H. and Helen (Piper) Shafer.
Surviving are his sisters, Nada King, Linda Settles, and Debbie (Rick) Wellhausen, his brothers, Darrell Shafer and David (Ann) Shafer, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, Frank, Ronald, Larry, and Carroll Ray.
Rich worked several jobs including trucking, working as a mechanic and farming. He enjoyed car races, watching football, and hunting mushrooms.
A funeral service will be held Monday, April 6, at 11 am at Charity Southern Baptist Church in Greenfield. Visitation will be from 9 am until time of service. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery near Wrights. Memorials are suggested to Charity Southern Baptist Church, the Gas Cards for Cancer Patients Program or the Meals on Wheels Program.
