Rickey Lee Crays, 69, of Hettick, formerly of Virden, went to be with Jesus on Friday, June 11, 2021, at Memorial Medical Center while surrounded by family.
Rickey was born on May 19, 1952, in Springfield, IL, son of Tom and Betty (Ham) Crays. He was married to Sharon Kay Wells on June 26, 1982, in Girard, IL.
Rickey graduated from Virden High School in 1972. After working for several local employers during and after high school, he joined Laborer’s Local #477, from which he later retired. Rick attended Grace Southern Baptist Church and was a former member of the Girard Lion’s Club. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, poker nights with his brothers, and, especially in his younger years, music and dancing.
Rickey is survived by his daughter, Amy (Matt) Box of Hettick; three grandchildren, Cadeyn Marissa, and Elaina; brothers Gary Crays of Virden, Norman (Dixie) Crays of Jacksonville, Ronnie (Ruth) Crays of Virden, Danny (Rebecca) Crays of Virden; sisters, Vickie (David) Osborn of Virden, Sherry (Charles, decd.) Fouts of Virden, Bonnie (Keith, decd.) Castagno of Thayer, Sheila Crays of Thayer, Debbie (Jim) Howerton of Chickasha, OK, Tina Daily of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death are his parents, wife, sisters, Charlotte Crays and Linda Gregory, and three brothers-in-law including David Jackson, Charles Fouts, and Keith Castagno.
Cremation rites have been accorded by Shields Bishop Funeral Home of Greenfield, IL. Graveside burial of ashes officiated by Pastor Nathan Williams will be 11:00 am Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Virden Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life at Grace Southern Baptist Church for him and his sister Linda Gregory. All are welcome to attend.
