Roger Arras, loving husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather, went to be with his Lord on March 26, 2026, in Spring, TX, at the age of 82 after a long battle with leukemia. He was born on Jan. 14, 1944, in Greenfield, IL, the son of George and Lorena Arras. He married the love of his life, Cheri Bowman Arras, on Sept. 11, 1965, and they were married for 60 years.
She survives along with three children: Jana McCalip and husband Steven of Houston, TX; Laura George and husband Richard of Denton, TX; and Scott Arras and wife Kelli of Wellington, FL. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Jared Kincer, Daniel Kincer, Gracelyn Kincer, Emily Teegerstrom and husband Kristian, and Ella George. Roger was preceded in death by his brother, Ron Arras. He is survived by Ron's wife, Norma Arras, and her children, Melissa White and Ryan Arras, all of Greenfield, IL.
Roger graduated from Greenfield High School in 1962 as co-valedictorian of his class. He received a BS in Agriculture with honors from the University of Illinois in 1966 and an MS in Agricultural Economics from Southern Illinois University in 1967.
He worked his entire 38-year career for Caterpillar, Inc. and Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America in various product development and marketing positions, including Vice President of Customer Support. He retired in 2006.
He became a born again believer in Jesus in 1959 and was ordained as a deacon in 1969. He was active in Baptist churches wherever he lived, directing music and Bible study programs. He was a member of Champion Forest Baptist Church since 1994, where he was active in the choir, Faith Encourager Life Group, preschool class leader, deacon ministries, and several other ministries.
After retirement, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County and with AARP Tax-Aide as a tax counselor. He enjoyed golf, gardening, working on home improvement projects for his children, and activities with his grandchildren. He enjoyed cruising and semi-annual trips to play golf and attend NASCAR races with his wife and friends. His most enjoyable times were family vacations and a cruise with his kids and grandkids.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in his honor on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Champion Forest Baptist Church in Houston, TX. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Champion Forest Baptist Church.
