Ronald R. Arras, 74, of Greenfield, died on Thursday, March 3, 2022. He was born on July 11, 1947, in Carrollton to George and Lorena (Freer) Arras. He married Norma Murphy on April 15, 1972, in Litchfield and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Melissa (Justin) White, a son, Ryan (Jessica) Arras, a grandchild, Jordan White, a brother, Roger (Cheri) Arras, two brothers-in-law, Richard (Judy) Murphy and Karl (Maxine) Murphy, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an uncle, Lawrence (Lucille) Arras, a cousin, Kay (James) Larimer, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Murphy.
Ron graduated from Greenfield High School in 1965 and Ranken Technical College in 1967. He worked at Shell Oil Company for nine years and operated the family farm for more than four decades. Ron loved his family and anything mechanical or technical. His pastimes included working with machines, trying out new computer technology, traveling on a motor scooter, piloting airplanes, boating, trap shooting, and fixing things. A life-long musician, he played trumpet in high school and for decades afterward in community bands. He was heavily involved in the community, always helped anywhere he could, and rarely missed his “office hours” at the local coffee shop.
Cremation rites will be accorded, and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 11th at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield. The visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield.
