Ronald G. Meneley of Greenfield, Illinois, long-time resident of Lake Forest, Illinois, passed away at Highland Park Hospital after an extended illness on February 24, 2018.
Born to Charles D. and Minnie “Edith” (Sonneborn) on July 25, 1940, he was the youngest of four children. His siblings include Willard, Wilbur and Carmen.
Ron moved to Chicago to attend technical college after graduating from Greenfield High School. He married Susan Wachter in 1965. He began his career in the grocery business with Eagle Foods. He served in the United States Army honorably from 1966-1972. Ron later moved into sales management in the food and confectionary business with Kraft, Mars, Quaker, Andes, Brach’s and other global brands.
Ron was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He took up golf mid-life and loved spending time with friends and family. Anyone who knew him would say, “he’s the nicest man,” and “a true gentleman.”
Ron is survived by his wife, Gail Meneley of Lake Forest; his daughter, Megan (Brian) Stockton, and three beloved grandchildren, Edith “Gracie,” Cameron and Ruby of Lake Forest; his stepson, Michael Rafter, of Asheville, NC; and his sister, Carmen (Meneley) Gaffney of Jerseyville, IL.
A Celebration of Ron’s life will be held at Market House in Lake Forest from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27 with an Open House to follow at the 670 Bank Lane entrance. He will be laid to rest with his mother, father and brothers in Greenfield, Illinois. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 28, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home where a "time of sharing" will be held at 4. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greenfield with full military rites provided by the Tri-County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association of America, the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
