Ron moved to Chicago to attend technical college after graduating from Greenfield High School. He married Susan Wachter in 1965. He began his career in the grocery business with Eagle Foods. He served in the United States Army honorably from 1966-1972. Ron later moved into sales management in the food and confectionary business with Kraft, Mars, Quaker, Andes, Brach’s and other global brands.

Ron was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He took up golf mid-life and loved spending time with friends and family. Anyone who knew him would say, “he’s the nicest man,” and “a true gentleman.”

Ron is survived by his wife, Gail Meneley of Lake Forest; his daughter, Megan (Brian) Stockton, and three beloved grandchildren, Edith “Gracie,” Cameron and Ruby of Lake Forest; his stepson, Michael Rafter, of Asheville, NC; and his sister, Carmen (Meneley) Gaffney of Jerseyville, IL.

A Celebration of Ron’s life will be held at Market House in Lake Forest from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27 with an Open House to follow at the 670 Bank Lane entrance.  He will be laid to rest with his mother, father and brothers in Greenfield, Illinois. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 28,  from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home where a "time of sharing" will be held at 4.
