Ruth Ann Davenport, 72, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at the Jersey Community Hospital. She was born December 9, 1949, in Alton, to Edward and Gladys (Metz) Koehne. She married William “Bill” Davenport, February 14, 1987, who preceded her in death, September 10, 2009.
Surviving are her children, Jennifer Miller, Ron (Tamara) Martin, step-children Mackie Davenport, Terry (Mary) Davenport, Ernie Davenport, Kitten (Steve) Hardwick, Darrel (Michelle) Davenport; grandchildren, Heather, Terry, Damon, Jacob, Alex, Maggie, Nicholas, Chelsey, Hunter, Stephanie, Mack, Kenny, Sarah, Susan, Ashley, Corey, Allen, Jennifer, Casey, David, Brandy, Brittany, Chad, Cameron, Cecelia, Darby, and thirty-five great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Wynn, Janet Harper, and Patricia (Steve) Hoyt, and brothers, Jim (Gaylene) Koehne, Edward (Elaine) Koehne, and Bob (Pat) Koehne and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Laura, step-son Daniel, and great-grandson, Tristin.
Ruth graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville as a Registered Nurse. She loved working at area hospitals and nursing homes but most enjoyed her time providing home health care through the Greene County Health Department. She enjoyed painting, playing cards and board games with family, and working on the farm with her husband where they bred and raised dogs, worked livestock, and gardened. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother and grandmother and taking part in all of her children's and grandchildren's lives.
A funeral will be held Saturday, March 26, at 11 am at the Shields-Bishop funeral home in Greenfield. Visitation will be from 9 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at the Witt Cemetery in Rockbridge. Memorials are suggested to the Greene County Health Department. Please leave a memory or condolence at shields-bishopfh.com.
