Sarah Pembrook Obituary

Sarah Lou Pembrook, 90, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, January 2, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born April 24, 1932, in Palmyra to William Clark and Ida (Quarton) Holliday. She married William D. Pembrook, March 22, 1953, at the Christian Church in Palmyra, and he preceded her in death December 19, 2014.    

Surviving are her daughters,  Debbie (Rich) Albrecht of Greenfield and Nancy (Ron Smith) of Roodhouse, her sons,  Richard (Sheryl) Pembrook of Naperville, and John (Nikki) Pembrook of Greenfield, her grandchildren, Eric (Stephanie) Albrecht, Shelley (Dave) Scott, Tony (Wendi) Albrecht, Jeanette (B.T.) Norman, Kyle (Gretchen) Pembrook, Eric Pembrook,  Christina (Ethan) Mohr, Joshua (Amy) Pembrook, Emily (Joseph) Alexander, and her great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Haryson, Cole, Liam, Kassidy, Kallie, Layton, Talon, Tinley, Aiden, Ruby, Jarrett, Henry, Jackson, Jade, and another boy due in March. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter-in-law Lori Pembrook, two sisters, Evelyn Pratt and Shirley Hunt, and three brothers, Wendell Holliday, Melvin Holliday, and Ira Holliday.  

Sarah Lou worked at the Franklin Life Insurance Company in Springfield, and the Nesco Plant in Jacksonville before becoming a bus driver in the Greenfield School District, retiring in 1998 after 30 years of service. She also worked alongside her husband on the family farm.  

Sarah Lou was a member of the Greenfield First Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School teacher, nursery worker, financial secretary, and led the night time Missions circle. She also enjoyed bowling and volunteered as Greenfield’s meals on wheels coordinator for many years. 

She loved every aspect of her life, especially taking care of her great grandkids til they went to school. She kept very busy following all the sports and activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her church and many friends and always gave credit and thanksgiving to her Lord who blessed her. Sarah Lou had an infectious smile and will be missed by many.  

A funeral service will be at 12 pm Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Greenfield First Baptist Church.  Visitation will be from 9 am until time of service.  Burial will follow at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield. Memorials are suggested to the Greenfield First Baptist Church or the Residential Hospice Program.  The Shields-Bishop Funeral Home is assisting the family.  Please leave a condolence or memory at shields-bishopfh.com.
