Steven Maxvill Obituary

Steven (Steve) Craig Maxvill, 71, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on January 2nd, 2023 in Virginia.

He was born on September 9th, 1951 in Granite City, Illinois to Jackie and Vivian Maxvill. He was proceeded in death by his parents; sisters, Karen (Roger) Houston and Charlene (Denny) Tackaberry; brothers; Gene (Martha) Calvin, Jackie Jr Calvin and Philip Maxvill. Surviving are Roger Titchnel, Beverly (Wayne) Harrison, Paula, Cathy (Mike) Augustine and Kimberly (Tim) Wild.

When Steve was 8 years old, he become a much loved member of the Wilbur and Mary Cox family of Wrights, Illinois as a son, brother and uncle. Steve enjoyed the family time of getting together and playing games. He attended Greenfield school and in high school, played for the Tigers football team as a punter. When he wasn’t working his job at Pop’s Discount, it was common to see him driving around in his 1961 Chevy Impala with a green army hat perched on his head. After graduation in 1971, Steve joined the navy. He married Patricia (Pat) K Kennedy on February 14, 1982. Sometime later, they moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia. After retiring from the navy, Steve worked for the State of Virginia as an automobile inspector and at a golf course where he enjoyed improving his golfing skills. He had a great sense of humor and on visits to Illinois, loved telling stories about the old days growing up in Greene County.

His wife, Pat, survives along with a daughter, Keri of Germany, son, Matthew of Virginia, a granddaughter and from a previous marriage, son, Steven (Steve) Eric of Springfield. Also surviving from the Cox family he grew up with are Ruth (Gene) Pedigo and Gary (Karen) Cox and many nephews and nieces. Preceding him in death were Wilbur and Mary Cox; Wilbur Jr (Hazel) and Paul (Joanne) Cox; and Rita (Kenny) Plogger.

His remains will be laid to rest at Union Prather Cemetery in Greene County with a memorial to follow at a later date.
