William Walden Obituary


William H. Walden, 80 of Greenfield, died Wednesday, May 30, at the St Johns Hospital in Springfield.  He was born February 27, 1938, to Odren and Ruby (Fry) Walden. He was 1 of 18 children.
 
Surviving are two daughters, Jane (Norm) Burton and Pam (Jim) Armold both of Greenfield, and one son, Doug (Rochelle) Walden of New Market, AL., five grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are six sisters, Dorothy Campbell, Opal (Joe) Lawson, Wanda (Roy) Motley, Donna Dorks, Patty (Mike) Adams, and Jackie McAdams, and four brothers, Ernie, Lewis (Ann), Jim (Deb), and Paul (Sue).
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, and eight brothers, Wilbur, Earl, Don, Truman, Herman, Everett, and Carl Richard.
 
Bill was a 1952 graduate of Greenfield High School. He was an auto technician and worked on the corvette line in St. Louis, and then worked for Nell Chevrolet and Cole Chevrolet in Greenfield. He also farmed for L.D. Scott in Rockbridge for many years.  He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing.  In his younger years he played slow pitch softball in the men’s league in Greenfield. He mostly loved being with his family.
 
Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial graveside service will be held at 3 pm Saturday, June 9, at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield. Shields-Bishop Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, and online condolences can be left at shields-bishopfh.com.
