Wilton Leroy Hudson Jr., 81, of Greenfield, passed away Sunday, March 26 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born October 30, 1935, in White Hall to Wilton L. Sr. and Margaret (McGraw) Hudson.  He married Dorothy “Doris” Daugherty November 3, 1956 in Waterloo, and she survives.

 

     Also surviving are two daughters, Diane (Carl) McMillen of White Hall, and Donna Sue (Tom) Spears of Mt. Olive; two sons, Ronald (Lindy) of Mt. Vernon and Thomas (Debbie) of Alfred, Maine; ten grandchildren, Bridget Williams, Cory Hudson, Heather Haynes, Brandon Hudson, Amber Ewald, Eric Pfleger, Shannon Hudson, Megan Huff, Shane Hudson, and Taylor Hudson; twenty-four great-grandchildren, and one sister, Eileen (Bill) Schutz of Elmhurst.

 

     He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Donald Leroy Hudson, a grandson, Jeffrey McMillen, and five sisters, Marie Strong, Dorothy Stone, Wilma Walsh, Ruth Grady, and Mary Plahn.

 

     Leroy was a 1953 graduate of North Greene High School and moved to Greenfield in 1957. He was the meat department manager at the IGA in Greenfield for 41 years. He was the lead manager for his sons and grandson in the 7-9, 9-11, and 11-13 Khoury League age groups. He served as the Greene County Baseball Commissioner for six years. He joined the Greenfield Fire Department in 1963 and volunteered for many years. He was a member of a group of seven, instrumental in building the baseball diamond at the Greenfield City Lake. He was a Cub Scout Leader, certified IHSA referee for baseball and wrestling and a member of the St. Michael Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

 

     Visitation will be Wednesday, March 29, from 9 am until 10:30 am when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Michael Church in Greenfield.  Burial will follow at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield. Memorials are requested to the Greenfield Little League or the Blessing Hospice of Greene County.  The Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of arrangements and online condolences can be left on shields-bishopfh.com.
